Out in the paddock It's harvest time! People often think this is a strange time of year to be picking, as it seems so out of step with most other crops. We might be picking anytime in May, June or July depending on the season and how the olives are ripening. Our first pick of the year was on the June long weekend. The trees we harvested in this first pick were those that go into our 'Hillside' extra virgin olive oil. It's a pretty steep block, so the legs get a workout! We handpicked these trees, with extra care given to the quality of olives that make it into the crates that we take to the press. Across the weekend we had some great family time in the paddock. It can be hard work, but we love that we all get to hang out and chat! We had all three generations of the Tathra Homestead family out in the paddock, which is pretty cool. Taylor and Jack help a little, but get to spend their afternoons playing in the paddock, the ultimate nature playground. They built a cubby with tree prunings, rode their bikes, talked to the sheep, searched for flowers and bugs and used their imaginations. Tathra Homestead Extra Virgin Olive Oil We look forward to bringing you our 2019 extra virgin olive oil products soon. We'll update you via social media as soon as we release the deliciousness!
